identifying boge dble tube gas shocks??

mr anderson states in his book that these boge gas shocks were std on 86 and 87 cars (i've not heard this mentioned on the board) - how do i identify them?

will i have problems changing to bilstein?? (just inserts) the book mentioned an adapter for konis - does this come with the shocks?

anyone done the swap?

richard

Generally its the color of the strut. But not always, paints cheap.
Black, BOGE. Green, Bilstein. Red, Koni.
The swap in my 77 was a breeze. With the car in the air. Maybe 20-30 per side.
But allow time to enjoy and observe.

Black or gray usually means Boge ... but if you clean the lower 6"-8" of the strut or shock, you will fihd the mfr name stamped into the body!

I assume you are talking about the frint shocks since you used the word "insert". The switch from boge to bilstein is easy. When you order the part specify that you want a bilstein insert for a boge strut. They drop right in. The double tube chatter doesn't make sense to me. Every shock has an inner and outer tube, maybe that is what they mean by double tube.

The switch from boge to bilstein in the back is even easier, assuming you can reach the top bolt on the passenger side.

Good luck.
