Cool Craigslist story.....(sorry a bit long)
 

Searching the local Craigslist the other day and saw a new 3.2 Bentley Manual listed for decent price so I contacted the lister and made an offer. He responded and let me know where he was located to make arrangements for a pickup.

He was a few exits away from where I worked so I planned to shoot over during lunch. The location is a suburban town near Boston with a large amount of commercial area so I assumed it was a garage or auto repair facility.

When I pulled into the area where he was located I thought I was lost or he gave me wrong directions since it was a high end residential area with 17th and 18th century mansions with high hedges and stone walls, a really nice area of million dollar homes.

I continued to the location and parked in the driveway and when I got to the door an older gentleman ansered and welcomed me in. This caught me by surprise as I have done deals over Craigslist and usually want to meet people in nuetral locations with all the scams out there.

We chatted a bit gave me the manual and laughed that he got it for free (which I thought was a bit ironic being in a hose I could never afford) he then grabbed a garage door opener and said he he didnt need it because he had a "different" model of Porsche. He walked me out to the garage and as it oppened I saw a 356 sitting next to a Boxter.

The 356 turned out to be a mint '55 Continental model that had a light covering of dust on it but was absolutely mint inside and out. There was a spare 912 engine on the floor along with othe various engine bits scattered all over.

The Boxter was his daily driver and he also had a '63 cab in storage at another location. He owned the Continental for 20 years and had owend many other Porsches over 30 odd years. Very interesting man with a great taste of driving pleasure even in his later years.

I wish I could end the story saying he handed over the keys to the 356 but he didnt (didnt even have a camera to take a pic) but I got a kick out of the whole transaction and the up close view of a model I have only heard a little about. I hope I can return the favor some years from now when I'm old and gray with my '88 still in my garage.

Good story.... but .. Boxster....

Porsche got sued over the use of the "Continental" name......probably why they are so nasty about it to everyone else.

This is great evidence that normal people use Craigslist too.

Cool.

Similar story... went to pick up a front wing for a longhood 911 (similar kind of small ad) here in the south of France. Likewise, after going in through gates etc, I am driving around some serious houses. I meet the guy... he shows me the short wheelbase 911S he is restoring.... and we continue chatting. After a while he mentions he has other old cars and I get to see the only Cargraphic widebody black Speedster (86 I think it was) ... beside an also mint 1973 911 2.4S. The other garage was full with other very nice non-Porsche cars.
They were a pleasure to see.
