Steering Wheel Extension?
I've replaced the stock steering wheel on my car with a nice Nardi. My problem is that exacerbates the extended-arms syndrome. I plan to add an extender to bring the wheel closer to me. As it is now, it's about a half-inch further away from me than the stock wheel was.
So here's my question: If you have added an extender to an aftermarket wheel, how much extension did you use? Seems to me that too much extension will put my paws too far away from the turn-signal and wiper stalks. Thanks in advance. - Jon

I bought and installed the Momo Retro from our hosts.
It too was a little further away than I wanted so I bought the extension.........great decision!!!!!! I think it lifted the the wheel 12 mm to get a better view of the gauges, and moved it nearer to me by about 16mm....much better position all round.... Neil

I used to use a 30mm Momo extension, but have since repaced it with a quick-release hub, which moves the wheel to about the same 30mm.
I find the extra space from the turn signal and wiper stalks to be an advantage when autocrossing, as they will never get bumped accidentally. I'm now completely used the this location, and never think about the extra stretch of the fingers when I need to use the stalks. |

Not sure if the Nardi uses the same hub adapter as a Momo, but the Momo hub is available in both the standard and extended length. I just sold my extended hub a week ago, but they can be purchased from our host here.

I used the momo spacer, which helped a little, but my legs were still getting in the way if I wanted to reach the steering wheel properly.
I then installed a quick release, and it moves the wheel out another couple inches. The driving position is much better, but the one problem is that the switches for the turn signals and such are a little too far away, buy I've gotten used to it, and it's not a problem anymore. I didn't go with a non-hubcentric spacer because I figured they would cause problems by getting further in the way of my legs when turning. When I first inherited it from my dad, I could barely turn the wheel without my hands getting jammed between the steering wheel and my legs, so when I found a way to get the steering wheel further away from the dash, I jumped at the chance. Plus, having a smaller diameter steering wheel did help a little too. Anyway, long answer to a simple question. Michael |

The Nardi bolt pattern is different to the Momo bolt pattern, I do believe. But extenders are available from Nardi suppliers. I'm thinking that the 30mm mentioned by Dantilla, above, or about an inch, would do quite nicely. I'm hoping others will chime in.

What is the part number for the extended hubs? I just looked and I couldn't find them, just the spacer that attaches to the hub. Michael |

I have a hub extension (quick release hub - theft deterent) which adds about 4 ins. As well, I have a shift extension which is about 3 ins. I am about 6'6" tall and I have a sunroof so I know the feeling about the fully extended arm syndrome. Also, I installed a short shift kit from Pelican which tightened everything up a bit but at least now I can reach things without have to pull myself up on the steering wheel. I comfort level has really improved in long distance driving. BTW - it may not look like 3 ins. but remember the shifter covers most of the extension. A fellow Pelicanite made a bunch of extensions several months ago and sold them here.

Momo with 1" Spacer
I installed a Momo Prototipo with a 1" spacer.
At first I wondered if it was a good move - I found that I need to slip my hand off the wheel slightly to reach the turn signal and wiper stalk and also need to really reach to hold the wheel with my knee (I'm just asking to hear about that one - no worries, I only drive with my knee when I'm talking on my cell phone ![]() After a few days of driving, I found the closer position of the wheel made driving much more comfortable, which definitely offset the annoyance of having to reach for the stalks. I also found it provides more space to slip in/out of the driver's seat (fixed racing buckets with other, unintended trade-off attributes). Good luck, Gordo

L231. The L is supposed to be the Long hub. Still available from our host. Can't tell you what the diff is between the L and the 231 which doesn't appear to be available any more
