How critical is valve installed length?

The VERY budget top end rebuild of my old 2.4 is ongoing. I recut all the valve seats no problem and refaced all the valves. ( I did find one bent exhaust, but a kind soul had a spare ).

Dry assembly shows the head to valve stem top measurement is too great . Worst one is 0.3 mm over max value.

My question is how critical is this measurement and how much can be removed from the valve stem to bring it back into tolerance if neccesary?

Clearly I can establish spring length with additional shims but think the length affects cam / rocker / valve geometry

New seats and valves are not an option here.

i would not worry over that small increment. shim to proper spring height and assemble.
