Introduction and some questions

New guy here just saying hello, and thanks for the wealth of knowledge Ive already acquired in the past couple weeks just lurking on these forums. What a great place!! My business partner has been a P car guy for quite some time, owning I think 6 since Ive known him, with a 993 TT sitting in his garage currently. I recently caught the bug after driving an 83SC euro spec. After some hunting I found an 86 Carrera coupe locally with 80k orig. on the clock and pulled the trigger. Motor and trans in great shape with plenty of svc records. Interior is well cared for with only the door seals and a couple little things needing attention. Unfortunately the paint leaves a little to be desired. The repaint was done some time ago and while its really not too bad, there are some things driving me crazy. One door ding/chip on each door, some pretty bad rock chips on the hood, and some minor paint cracking around the front windshield seal.. tape lines I think

I would like to repair the chips, see what can be done about the area around windshield.. respray a couple panels if need be, have a ducktail fitted and sprayed, and Carrera graphics on the doors. Any idea what I'd be looking at price wise?

From what it looks like AIR in Van Nuys is the place to go but these guys Carrera6 | Porsche Restoration are two blocks from my house and was wondering if anyone has worked with them?

Thanks very much, Beau

paint and body work pricing is too subjective to quote an accurate answer. The SC's and Carrera's had an issue with windshield seals and allowing water to enter. The paint cracking there could have an underlying fix that is more indepth and will likely require the windshield to be removed (and a new rubber) to correctly fix. The only way to know is to take it in and get some quotes. You're on the right track asking for reputable places to go. Good luck and I know you'll enjoy the car...I've had 3 86's over the last 17 years.

Kevin Metzner of AIR has always done great work on my cars. He is a very friendly guy, as well.

Never heard of the other guys.
