915 rebuild: 1st gears don't line up??

I am now putting back together my 915. I have assembled both input and output shafts. I have noticed that when I place the input shaft beside the output shaft with the gears meshed I see that the free spining 1st gear doesn't line up in the center of the fixed 1st gear on the input shaft. I used the bearing flanges as the starting/reference point. The other gears seem to be OK.

At first I thought I made a mistake somewhere, however when I look at the wear marks on the fixed 1st gear it indicates that the gear was misaligned before I open her up. Jim Sims (thanks) and I have gone over and verified that all the parts are in and are in the correct direction. We even compared thickness of each component on the output shaft.

Is it common to see this misalignment? Should I worry?

This picture shows what I mean.
