Hey Guys: This is off topic as I need a good neiborhood garage in Chicago. My friend goes to UC Midway and her Nissan tranny is giving her troubles. I dont trust her to any old tranny shop and would like you guys opinions. Does anyone know the area?? Thanks Bill

Call Stephens Automotive (847) 705-8770 in Paletine (Northwest Burb) and ask for Joe Stephens (owner). Joe used to work at a Toyota dealer for many years and then started his own shop a while back. Anyway, GREAT friendly service and VERY fair prices (a lot cheaper than the dealers and he also stands by his warranties). He works on mostly Toyota's, Nissan's, Honda's (and even some domestics cars from time to time). Anyway, I've taken my Nissan Sentra and Maxima to him for years and have always been happy with the service. One of his employees (guy named Bleu) is really good about finding you the best price for genuine Nissan or aftermarket parts (sometimes even cheaper from the dealer than if you walked in to buy the part). Joe's not really close to my house but the savings more than makes up for the 15-20 minute drive. Heck, you can even drop off your keys in the night deposit box and leave a credit card under the mat of your car, wait for his call the next day, and then pick up your car at night (that's what I typically do). Finally, check this out. I don't even think he advertises as most of his customers are from word of mouth. Tell him Omar told you about this place.

For street cars, try R Fischer Motors in Barrington. Top notch father and son shop.
For race/track cars, try MidWest EuroSport by O'hare. Very good, but $$$ and always busy. Both of these shops are frequented by PCA'ers and have always given me quality work.
