I'm Happy
Well I just did my valves on my car, all were good, checked my head studs- ALL tight. You know I am starting to really hate it when everyone puts down these 2.7s. My car is 25 years old and runs very well. (knock on wood)
Just thought I would tell everyone how happy I am. On the bad side my valves look really dirty. I took some pics and will post them when they are done. I did the techron treatment in the summer and they still look bad. Shawn

My '77 Targa has been wonderful. Other than having to replace the points, she hasn't skipped a beat. Excellent gas mileage, doesn't use excessive amounts of oil, no thermal reactors, cat, she purrs like a kitten and accelerates like a rocket. Other than a K&N filter and Bursch exhaust, she's stock. Managed to stay on the rear bumper of a '99 Mustang GT with 4.10 gears and chip. I could never get around him due to traffic. Surprised the hell out of the guy. Met at a gas station later and he wanted to see my "big" motor. When I showed it to him, he couldn't believe it was only 2.7 liters with about 165 HP (without the exhaust). He just had to sit in it. Of course, I obliged.

Thanks guys . . . I'm feeling better already. Just as pleased with mine as the 2 of you are with yours.
Keep the faith.

The 74-77 911's have a reputation they don't really deserve. The problem is that all 911s are so good, it only takes a few negatives to give a series a bad rap. Same thing is happening - to a lesser extent - to the 84-89 Carreras due to the valve guide problems. -- Curt

I agree. All 911's have their quirks, regardless of year. Most cars are this way. Every year is supposed to be a big improvement over the previous year model, but these changes usually introduce a different set of problems. I could care less what anybody thinks about 74-77's. But, this is America and they're entitled to their opinions.

Let's not forget about the '91 3.6 leaky cylinders

Well, most 911s have their quirks. On the other hand, there are the SCs!

That's because you live in Canada davis. If you lived in Ca with the thermal-atomic-engine detonators, you'd have 10+ busted studs. That's it.
For US and mainly CA models, Porsche blew it on the 2.7. Plain and simple. The should have just done the same thing they did with the turbos for a few years, refuse to import them until they figured out how to handle emissions and HEAT successfully ![]()
