Reputable 911 shops in Northern Calif.?
Wow, after reading so many horror stories about rebuilds gone bad (Phoenix - was that your call sign before the car went up in flames?) I'm thinking the only way I'm going to attempt a rebuild myself for my '72 911T is to find a reputable shop nearby that can help with machining and ordering the right parts. I'd do the assembly myself, methinks.
Any advice on trusted & reputable 911 shops in Northern California? I'm near Sacramento, but would consider Bay Area so avoid having to rebuild this engine more than once. ![]() -Boyo |

Boyo,
Unfortunately I found this place only afterwards. Had I known about this board it earlier, I'm quite sure that the knowledge, frankness and honestly found here would have kept me out of flames. The Phoenix has risen hopefully never to be pulled into the ashes again ![]()

Ted Robinson at German Precision, Sunnyvale 800/762-1911. Good machine shop with experienced and informed owner. You can ship parts to him by UPS. Did heads, case mods, crank polishing and repair, flywheel mods and machining, connecting rod refurbishment and replaced gear/sprockets on intermediate shaft on my son's '73T.

boyo--
I've had very good luck with Valhalla in Lafayette, though (thankfully) never had to do an extensive rebuild. Also, heard very good things about Deutsche Motorsports (Concord) and Kahlers (Dublin). do a search of the archives - I remember there being several threads on this in the past several months.

Too big to fail

Here's my pick:
Frank's Automotive, Folsom Blvd (916) 452-0917 They did my 3.6L conversion and rebuilt my 3.6L engine. He also rebuilt my transmission a couple years ago There's also: IPB AutoSport (916) 453-1465 I had an 'issue' with them several years ago over a BMW repair, but they've been under new ownership for a while. There's numerous other ones, but these 2 pop to mind first.

I use Frank's. Very knowledgeable and has a very good rep. Just by chance spoke to a mechanic that used to work for him, the guy had nothing but praise for Frank. Currently have my 944 there having some work done and trust him completely with my SC. He is exceptionally knowledgeable of 356 matters. Just my 2 cents worth. One of those shops you'd drive right by if you didn't know it was there but every time I waklk through the door I'm like a kid in a candy shop.

I have used Ted at German Precision in Sunnyvale. Very good at machining and can get you all the parts at a good cost.

I use Competition Engineering in Calif. UPS him every thing. He is about 6 hours from Sac. If he is good enough for the big guys in PANO and Excellence, he's good enough for me. Prices are routine, not cheap. For cheap you could call MotorDisaster[sic]
