sportmatic keeps popping out D3

Hi everyone,

I know that sportmatic info is quite rare but I was hoping for a bit of advise from other sportomatic owners/ people in the know............

I just picked up a 79 sportomatic and seem to have issues with d3............ I get the car up to about 60/70 km (35miles per hour) and engage in d3........It engages ok but then pops out (disengages) as i start accelerating...... It does this all the time
any suggestion would be apprecaited as to how I can get mine to work properly

Here is a pic of the car when we were giving her the once over today

rgds

Mark,

I'd first make sure your linkage is adjusted properly, nothing is loose, and bushings are all intact, so that a full throw into 3rd gear isn't being limited. On a 3-speed Sporto, which I'm assuming this is (though 4-speeds are the same in this respect), a 3rd gear shift is pushing the shaft into the transmission. Shift into 3rd, disconnect the coupler, and see if you can manually push the shaft in further. If you attempt to loosen and adjust anything, first mark the pieces, so you'll know where it all was if you want to return.
