Drove a 993 C2S!
 

Well, I've driven this particular 911 before, but I was thrown the keys and entrusted to ferry my Boss' car to the panel shop to have the 993 Twin Turbo tail colour matched and fitted.

It's the first time I've been let loose in it "unsupervised", with my Boss' total blessing ("You know what 911s are like, just don't bend it, Adam" he said!) and I must say that it's an amazing piece of equipment. I was blown away by the torque! It has twin Monty mufflers and really has an aggressive throaty rasp/growl. The exhaust note is to die for!

The clutch felt chillingly similar to my old '76 and the brakes had the same urgent halting feeling, yet the gears seemed clunky. This car has barely travelled 30,000kms, so I'm sure it's just me, not the car!

Apologies for the image quality, they're stills lifted off my digital video camera. I'll hopefully digitize some of this and host it on my website. It's awesome stuff!

Oh, FWIW, I'll post some pictures of it completed with the tail fitted and painted too, instead of all these "before shots". It should look good! :D

Kiwior and I drove a '97 C4S a couple of months ago. Local dealer had a "come drive a car and get a free Porsche polo" promotion. What are they, nuts?

Anyway, the C4S is quite a nice car. Much more refined than my bone stock 87 Carrera. The C4S is much faster but doesn't feel that much faster (kinda quiet even with motorsound)- until you really get into the throttle and the tires let loose. Wow! I wouldn't have expected the AWD to allow the tires to break loose under hard acceleration. The added grunt of the 3.6 is great.

After the ride in the 993, I was pleased to find that I like the feel of the 87 better. In the 87, seems like there's a little more communication to the driver thru the controls. I imagine the earlier cars are even more hard-wired to you. Just my opinion. To each his own. If I had to drive the car every day, the 993 would be the way to go.

Oh, a new tail? In my opinion, the 993 Carrera S grille and the early 911 chrome grill are the best looking non-turbo 911 tails. I wouldn't change it if I owned the car, but it's not mine! Beautiful car anyway, though...Hope he likes the new tail.:)

Clunky gears, eh? I know what you mean. The standard, '94 Carrera 2 that I drove a couple of years back was the same; I really had to shove the stick. I found the gate to be really narrow, too. Everything about the car felt heavier.

Still, the torque was very impressive; I can only imagine what a VarioRam 3.6 is like!
