rear window defroster

um in the process of of restoring my 85 3.2 when the car was running my rear defrost didnt work. the light came on in the button, but didnt work. with all the windows out, i decided to check for current at the connections. the test light didnt light up. i decided to messs witht the switch. i noticed the switch turns a notch to the right. now i have current to the rear connections for the rear defrost. is this normal. idont have the owners manual for the car. i just assumed you pull the knob to turn on the defrost. also i noticed i was missing a relay in the left side engine compartment. its on of the round black relays. is that for the rear defrost. any help would be appreciated. tony
