Issue w/ Turbo Bilsteins :(

I'm re-working the whole suspension and ran into an issue... I bought these to swap out the Boge struts I had:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/466322-fs-bilstein-struts.html

Cleaned up well and threw them in the car last month... but did not put the hubs on as I had a lot of other work to do and wanted the space free to get into the wheel well.

So today I was planning on bolting the hubs on, doing ride height, corner balance, and align... Repacked the wheel bearings and... opps... outer bearings do not fit on the spindles!! WTF??

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1293990766.jpg

That is as far as the outer race goes on.

So off to the Pelican catalog to see where I went wrong and how much it will cost me to correct my erroneous ways... but I 'm still confused:

Pelican Parts - Automotive Parts and Accessories - Porsche & BMW

I have the FAG bearing so I am assuming I need the SKF instead? But, it was assumptions that got me in this hole to begin with... What outer bearings do I need? Do I also have to replace the inner bearings? Do I have to replace the WHOLE hub?

That's as far as they go on. Hard to see in my pic but you can make it out.

There the same bearings, just different quality. Try putting the hub on the axle and reinstalling the bearing and seeing how close they are. That outer bearing should slide on smooth. Check to see if there are any burrs around the axle threads and clean them up. Also, try to screw the axle nut on and see if it goes on all the way without binding.

edit. I just reread the first post and I am an idiot.

Yeah when I pull the hub toward the bearing I have about 5/8" between the spindle spacer and the inner seal.

BINGO! there was a burr ever so small. Filed it off and the bearing slides on now. Thanks guys! I knew i was not completely fubarred!

Any chance you could measure the spindle diameter and the bearing diameter and post the numbers?

Curious.

It runs about 19mm... According to a friend I called who measured two sets for me.

Edit: Ah, just read that post. Mine and the 2 sets my friend measured were the same ~19.04mm depending on how you hold the calipers ;) and I will not be ordering special bearings just to get rid of 0.01mm...
