Ed,

Is this a race or street car? Inner front fender mount or up in the valance?

You don't need to add any additional holes for a front cooler (street car), depending how you do it.

For race cars, I like putting the lines inside the car on the passenger side floor so that involves some strategically placed holes.

It will be a simplified hard core street car if that makes sense. 74 RSR backdate, rollcage etc but will still have a carpet kit. Id like to go outside but the lines are so fat I cant imagine they run where the stock lines usually run????

Lots of pictures posted here - Use the stock Porsche thermostat - it has a relief plunger that you need. Search for front oil cooler install.

Me personally - I didn't like the idea of introducing 200 degree hot oil to the inside of the passenger compartment even with braided SS lines - so ended up springing for a set of elephant racing lines.

Jeremy is right on,...don't use those bloody Mocal thermostats: those are really best suited for wet-sump systems.

Use the factory thermostat which incorporates the very important pressure relief valve. That both protects the front cooler as well as shunts uncooled oil back to the engine when necessary to prevent oil starvation at high RPM.

I suggest looking at the many threads on front or fender-mount oil coolers and lines. In either case, the rigid factory lines (or equiv.) end about a foot away from the passenger side headlight bucket. From there, either factory lines to a factory cooler or metric-to-AN hose adapters and AN hose to the cooler(s).

Here you'll find my setup:

External Oil Cooler Install

BTW: I disassembled both of the thermostats and can't see any difference technically. Both have a little bypass when closed
