What 911 will you be driving in 10 years time

I guess most people here would love to keep their cars forever.
I certainly would, however in UK climate cars do not last forever.
I am currently repairing all the rust I can find without resorting to a complete bare metal restoration - no time - need the cab on the road for summer.

Maybe in 10 years time I wil fancy a change from this particular car, will there be a viable alternative?

Will there be any "good" air-cooled 911's still affordable by then? Maybe our cars will be unique in 10 years ?

Will the market for spares and tuning be diminshed - especially if porsche never return to racing.

Imagine if porsche continue to make GT cars - they might even be consumed by a global giant.

The interior of my sports car could look like this in 10 years. Hand built by an independent, no compromise sports car maker.

I'm hoping to be driving the same cars 10 years from now. One thing I like about driving classics is that they don't go out of style and their depreciation curve is pretty much a line. In July, my .sig file should read "1966 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, 1992 Porsche 911 C2." That should be the last time I need to change it :-) At the most, I wouldn't mind adding a 1967 Porsche 912 soft-window Targa.

I aim to still have my '84 3.2 cab, as long as the body survives. Of course I will be striving to make a 73 RS replica.

I just cannot see myself picking up a 10 year old 996 model.
I'm not sure that as many will survive as the previous models.

Afraid to say that if current trends at porsche continue very few "sports cars" will be made in 2012, let alone today.

I am sure it is my UK bias but in today's market (assuming I won the lottery of course) the only new car I would buy is the new TVR Tuscan R, or maybe a Ferrari 360. If you count tuners then I will have a new RUF.
Look at the figures for the TVR, 450bhp 1000KG

Great question. I was just thinking about this yesterday.

A couple of years out of college (in 1992) I bought my first Porsche: a '74 2.7 Targa. A few years later I sold it and bought a '81 SC Targa. That car was sold a couple of years ago and I just bought an '84 Carrera Targa See that pattern here?

I didn't really plan to work my way through the later model 911s, but since it's worked out that way I'll probably be in the market for a C2 in 5 years or so. After that, a 993.

I hope to have the same car, 72 911E. I can say this, the newest 911 I think I'd like to own would be a 993 and they are 5 years old already. I'm one of those dummy's that can't every be happy with just one.

Truth be known, I think its the wanting the I must do, not the getting. As soon as I get, I find somthing else to want!

Must be human nature.

I hope I am still driving the same car in ten years (89 930). I think the driving experience Porsche was made famous for will not be duplicated in the future. I would like to add another 911 in the next ten years (73 RS replica or if I strike it rich, the real thing). Also a 914/6 conversion for track/play would be nice.

I hope to still have mine (77 Targa) but I also want another, maybe a Boxster for my wife. - Doug you've got it made!

Or maybe in ten years I will have drained enough knowledge from this board that I will start another project.

I really just hope that in 10 years, My family, myself included is just healthy and happy. I also wish the same for all of you.

I will be driving my beloved 71 T, coz it won't rust at Johannesburg's dry 6000ft altitude and it will be kept on the road with help from 101 Projects for your 911 (if I can find a copy in South Africa)!.

I'll still have my '73 2.4 911 and hope to be able to add the new 2002 996 Targa with that terrific new hatch in the back. Or better yet, perhaps they'll have added a C4 version by then

That depends on whether Porsche AG decides to make a better looking 911 by then and if I come into some more money. I don't like the look of the 996. But right now I plan on making my next P-car an all black 1997 993. Hopefully, I'll have garage space by then to keep my current P-car too.

I'll definitely be driving the same car(s) ten years from now...(78SC, a couple of Alfa's...) I don't have a problem getting "new" (old) cars...just a little problem parting with them!
Looking to add another car to the stable so the wife will have something to drive when her car is being being repaired, oil changed or whatever. I am looking at 95 C2's ...she is looking at Corolla's! LOL

Cool

In 10 years I'll still be driving the '83 SC Targa, plus whatever else I can talk my wife into letting me buy between now and then. I'm adding a Beck Spyder to the garage in May. So long as I don't find a way to blow it up, I'll likely still have that, too.

I'd really like to add a 914 and a 944 Turbo to the stable, as well. Then maybe a Fastback 'Stang. I suppose in reality I could run down a list of at least 50 different cars I'd love to have! Of course, I have absolutely no idea where I'd put any more cars, since we live right outside of Detroit and have no place to put a pole barn or extended garage, and the neighbors and local police are already at the breaking point : (

Like said above, I really just hope that me and my family are around and healthy in 10 years. And that the prospect of looming costs of putting 2 kids through college doesn't force me to sell everything and drive a Kia...

I'd like a 356 to add to it all.
I'm could see myself selling my T in the next few years or so. Don't think I'll go much more modern . My dream would be a '74 lime green 2.7 Carrera. Add a '73S or '70S to that and a 356, too!

Hopefully the same car I drove 10 years ago, God willing. Or, I might chuck the whole P car scene & buy a 'vette!

I always thought I would keep my '86 Carrera forever. The '86 was my first and I have since bought and sold a '78SC and an '80SC.

Lately, I have decided that I would like to do more DE events. At 6'4", even without a helmet, headroom has been lacking. So, I have been thinking about putting "Iris" on the market and looking for an '87-89 Targa or Cab. Maybe there is another Pelican trade in the works? Anybody with a Targa or Cab want to work out a trade for the sleek lines of an '86 coupe?

If I do make that change, I expect that to be the last 911 I ever own (I think I said that once before too).

Here's my baby (on the left):

I will be driving a Mini-Cooper S. I love my Carrera but I have owned it since 1987 and I don't think I can resist the urge the change in the next 10 years. I wll let everyone know when I am ready to sell.

Whatever you do!!! DONT BUY A VETTE! A C3 model anyway, I had one. Very mechanical car with a nice suspension. TILL SOMETING BREAKS!!! Nothing in my opinion beats the simple beauty of porsche.
