Question Bent Strut - Replacement Question

While freshening up my front suspension I found that one of my strut housings is bent. I've located a replacement but it does not come with the spacer and o-ring preinstalled on the spindle (with the hub mounted on the spindle, the bearing grease seal rests up against this spacer ring). Has anyone replaced this piece before? How is it installed? Do the o-ring and spacer just slide onto the spindle? I should be receiving all the parts tomorrow and would appreciate any tips/tricks anyone may have.

Kevin

Kevin,
Just did the same strut spacer/o-ring R&R last week with new wheel bearings and races. The o-ring and spacer come off fairly easily. I ended up using a hammer and drift, alternating whacks on either side until the spacer came off. I popped the new spacer into the oven at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes to expand them. I placed them onto the spindle and then used the old spacer as my "seating tool" with my trusty hammer. It was a piece of cake. I put some lube on the spindle prior to installing the o-ring and spacer. Used the same technique for the bearing races on the hub also.

If you have a gear puller you can use it if the thought of using a hammer causes some concern

Good luck

I'm in the midst of replacing my struts, and ordered the seal races from the dealer, part # 901-341-623-00 - I didn't wanna putz with trying to get the old ones off, although in hindsight maybe I should have and saved the $40 or so *each*!
