Early 996 C4s - gas smell

Hi All -
At the office, I park in a small parking garage (maybe 50 spaces). There is someone who randomly drives/parks an early 996 C4s. I always know when it is in there due to the gas smell. I was going to point this out to them, but knowing nothing about the 996, I though I would ask if that was a normal deal prior to causing stress to someone. It is not so strong like it is dumping gas on the pavement (although I have not looked underneath), more like it is running horribly rich. However, he arrives at a similar time that I do (7 or so), and the smell lingers all day when I know the car has not moved - and this garage is very well vented (it is fully covered, but has one side that is open to the outside).

Should I bring this to his attention? Is this a known issue (or even normal) for the 996?

The car is not a beater - in fact looks wise, I would put it at an 8+. Nice looking car.

Thanks - sorry for the ignorance.

I do not know if it is a common issue or not. However, on our 02 C4S, I have never noticed a gas smell after driving. So, yes give them a heads up so they can look into it if they are not aware of the issue. It might save their car and more.

Does he have an aftermarket exhaust that removed the catalytic converters? That can sometimes cause a rich gas smell that will linger in the exhaust. Otherwise I don't see how it could be normal.

I would suspect a problem with his gas tank venting system. Or possible a fuel leak.

More than likely it is the hose from the pump to the tunnel. Easy fix but not cheap
