whats an 87 targa worth for parts?
maybe this is the wrong forum. let me know if it should be moved.
I'm going to look at an 87 targa that the friend of a friend wants to unload. Its been sitting about three years. I hope to bring it back to life but worst case scenario, What is an 87 targa worth for its parts for negotiating purposes? Any wild guesses? |

a free one can cost you more than an expensive one and to answer the question in parts really depends on the time and detail you put into it along with the quality of the parts and whats wrong originally ........
between 100.00 and ???????? |

I guess I need to restate my question. If I decide its not worth fixing, How much is it worth parted out?

Depending on the damage/condition...i'd say somewhere between 4-7k. It really depends on the overall condition of the car though. Old rusty parts are not worth much and you can buy a G50 driver in the 10-12k range that is a running automobile so that is my two cents.

A running 3.2 with a G50 can be worth quite a bit. Other stuff is hit and miss depending on condition...

$5K for the engine and computer setup is common. trans is worth $3K easy, but they don't move very fast because they don't break much. if you part it out on the 911 parts for sale forum you should do pretty good.

YUP totally agree with that. Just keep in mind that it is a lot.of work and a big time commitment to part a car out. You better enjoy emailing pictures, and packing then shipping large heavy parts. no question it can be slightly profitable if you pay the right price.

Most valuable parts are the motor (84-89) and the G50 (87-89)... if either or both of those have to be rebuilt, that puts a big hurt on the value.
The roller-latch targa top is worth a bunch if it's in good shape (could be worth as much as a high mileage trans), but if not pristine, no... All the body parts are virtually the same as every other 911 from 78-89. And most are the same as 74-89 except 74 and 75 were not galvanized totally. So it's not unique... interior in good shape w/ sport seats worth something. Do NOT forget to factor in the time (can be many 10's of hours) it will take you to part it, sell it and ship it. (Have a sawzall?) Pretty difficult to tell without knowing more, though. |
