Question on rear seal
 

I have to change the rear main seal at the back of the car behind the fan belt, I did a search but not much came up.
If you have done this on a 3.0SC a step by step would help.
Do you have to drain the oil out ?

I've done it on my 87, but the motor was out of the car. Anyway, don't make the mistake of thinking it HAS to be the crank seal. It could be the intermediate shaft cover causing the leak. Either crank seal or int. shaft cover, you'll have to remove the muffler and motor mount bracket to get at the seal. After you jack up the back of the car and support it with stands, make sure to support the motor with jack stands or whatever before you remove the spanner bar and motor mounting bracket. After the bracket is off, you'll need to remove the crank pulley if it's the crank seal that's the culprit. I can't remember if you can get at the int. shaft cover with the crank pulley installed. Someone else might know. Put the car in gear to keep the crank bolt from moving. Pry out the seal or remove int. shaft cover and replace seal or gasket. The regular service guys say the crank seal doesn't go bad too often so i'd bet it's the int. shaft cover gasket.

Not sure if you have to drain the oil. Probably not. Sump is well below the crank nose, but I can't be certain about the int. shaft cover.
