Rattlsnak,
Where's the sensor? How do I identify it? Seems likely. |
Yep, Rattsnak's right. I had the air flow switch contact/fuel pump relay logic reversed; air flow past the flow CIS metering plate OPENS the switch contacts which de-energizes the fuel pump relay coil (J16 in Haynes) and reconnects the normal "on" contacts 87a and 30. Therefore unplugging the wire to the air flow switch sets up the circuit to run the fuel pump anytime the ignition switch is in the "on" position regardlesss of whether the engine is running. Inari77S, look around the bottom/back of the airbox on the passenger side (behind and below the air filter) for the air flow switch and wire. :D Jim

With the DME, the fuel pump should not be operating unless the engine is on.
But mine was wired wrong by the PO's and was running with a hot key when I first got it. Roland helped me thru that little adventure. I changed my fuel pump ( wrong system pressure ) last fall. The old CIS pump you could hear with the car running at idle. The new and correct fuel pump can't be heard. When mine was loud. You could put your ear above either front tire and hear the whine coming out the ends of the suspension pan. This evenings .02c. |
The Bosch Fuel Injection book I have talks about a switch actuated by the air sensor plate, but doesn't show any pictures. The only picture shown includes a throttle position sensor, but that doesn't sound like what we're talking about here.
Cary - the switch isn't visible from the rear bumper, right? My car's in the shop now for cold-start issues, so I can't just run out and look. Want to be ready the next time I'm under the lid. |
Dave, I just dropped my engine. So pretty familar with the fuel injection switches, but I don't know which ones which.
But all electrical switches can be seen from the front. But I have a K & N filter set-up so my view is pretty good. The throttle positioner is one of 4 or 5 on that harness. If some doesn't answer by tonight, I'll dig it up out of the manual. Did you try changing the fuel pump relay ? Just a thought. |
Cary,
I haven't tried anything as yet. Car's in for service - out of my hands for the time being. Also, I didn't know the pump wasn't supposed to be running with the engine not running. Quote:
