Question door panel removal

what screws need to be removed to get the door panels off for speaker replacement? 81'SC

yes, the pocket has to come off. The screws (actually fine thread bolts with phillips heads) go through the pocket, then through the door panel, then into the metal of the inner door. You should probably have some of the plastic rod clips on hand as they tend to break or crack on removal or replacement. They get brittle after 20 years ! Good luck. MAX

I just replaced the speakers on my 87 targa yesterday with some Infinity 522i. Boy they make a difference.

Note, I did not have to take off the whole door panel. Simply removing the pocket and all associated screws attaching it gave me plenty of room to install the speakers. Took about 10 minutes per side, easily.

Mike did you have the stock grills? do they come off from the front of the panel?

All you need to remove is the pocket. That's 2 screws on either side and three on the bottom.
