VIN sticker in dor jam questions, 82SC Euro
Can I order a Porsche factory Vin# sticker for my door jam even know its a euro? I called Porsche dealer and they said only 89 and newer, doesn't seem right.
Currently this is in my door jam. The car is being painted and my painter said I can order a new vin sticker for the jam, He wasn't sure regarding the euro import. ![]() |

Hold on. I'm no expert but that looks like a non-original VIN assigned by the state of Washington, such as in cases where a car was salvaged or stolen in the past.
You should probably check with DMV before you remove that or get a new sticker cut on the original Porsche format. That DMV control number is probably important. Edit: Forgot you said this is a Euro car. It may have had a new VIN assigned at importation if it was brought over in the 80s gray market. |

Here's a pic of the NY State yellow sticker that was affixed to the door jamb of my Euro '81 SC back when it was federalized. It has a 5-digit number that replaced the 17-digit VIN and matches my DOT paperwork. I lived in NJ when I bought the car back in '86, but didn't have any issues getting the initial title/registration, and have been registering it in NJ for 30 years.
