83 911SC Tire Brand and Size Question

My 83 911 SC is ready for new tires. I’m looking at the Fusion ZR1 245 / 45R16 rear and 225 / 50R16 front. Are these the correct tire sizes for my Fuch 16”x8” and 16” x 7” wheels and is anyone out there familiar with these tires?
I’m open to suggestions on brand and size and would like to hear from someone with more experience.
Thanks
Dave

You're going to get a million opinions on this.

My two cents is:

I like 205/55/16 and 225/50/16 sizes for your wheels. Plus if you go with those sizes you'll have a lot more options than just the Fuzions. The 245/45/16's really limit you because no one really makes them anymore (right now).

What arbita1 said, re the sizes. That's exactly what I've got on my '82 SC. I bought Yokohama Avid ENVigors because they seemed to be a decent balance between quality, performance and, frankly, price. They seem to work well enough - though I must admit that I do not drive the car particularly hard. Plus, my experience is that they do a good job of avoiding aquaplaning (well, they don't work miracles) when we get our twice-yearly monsoons here in SoCal. As always, your results may vary. But I've got no complaints.

+1 on Matt's size recommendation.

I'm running 7X16 / 8X16 Fuchs on my '85, and have 205/55/16 front, 225/50/16 rears [Bridgestone RE760 both]. Am lowered to 'euro' height and don't experience any fender clearance issues.

I'm very happy with these tires -- affordable, quiet, sticky, and cruise well at speed without squishiness or tramlining on grooved freeway pavement.

Just my $.02

I’ve currently got BF Goodrich Comp TA 245/55/16 on the rear, which are no longer made and you are correct that the stagger that I’m running severely limits my brand selection.

I’m in Salt Lake City and only drive on dry days.

Maybe I check your sizes on my search.
Thanks for the help.

TOYO makes just about any size imaginable ... There IS a world beyond Tire Rack ...
Had some Proxes T1R's 225/50/16 and 245/45/16 on my 89 Coupe and they were excellent tires !

Cheers !

I have been running the Fusions for two years now on my daily driver and I am about to need rears, went into my local Firstone on Sunday to be told that they had stopped doing the Fusions.

I had been quite happy with them and would have replaced them like for like.

I had the Fuzion ZRi in the 205/55 and 245/45 combo on 7s and 8s. They were great tires for the price but sucked horribly in temps below about 40 degrees. I changed to Sumitomos because I got a great deal on a set of fronts so I needed to match them.

I would recommend the 225/50 size for the 8s like others have posted.

Try looking at Nexen tires. They offer a 245/45/16 in a performance tire. I have not read any reviews on them, though.

The tires are your contact with the road. Spend your money there. Bridgestone RE-11 in stock sizes

I spent weeks trying to pick out tires for my '82. I ended up settling on Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spes. I love them. They are VERY sticky and "communicate" very well. However, after a cool evening they take a few miles to warm up the first drive out.

I had the star specs recommended to me, but they aren't available in my size (I've got 15" fuchs). Spent a long time deliberating and came out with toyo proxes T1R...so far, they're excellent. Great grip and after 4 autocross events and a track day (in the hands of an extreme novice, by the way) they're holding up quite well.

Good luck!

Worth Checking

I have run Bridgestones, Sumitomo's, and now Hankook K106's. I promise these Hankook's are worth checking into.

Good Luck!

Agree with maxman and Dave...
I ran the TOYO Proxes T1R's on my 16 inch Fuchs before i switched to 17 inch Fikses on which i installed Dunlop Dirrezza Star Specs !

Overall the Toyos are a smoother tire and the Dunlops transmit more road feel, probably because the sidewall on the Dunlops is a lot stiffer than the Proxes.
Although Toyo makes two series above the Proxes which are closer to the Dunlops.

Either way,you can't go wrong !

Cheers !
