911 wireing

dose any body know were i can get a wireing schematic for a 1977 911 ? i've been given a 77 911 that stoped running due to elec. issues , also some one before me has tried to get it running and i don't know what they may have fooled with . so i thought i'd start by making sure all the connections in the engine bay are correct . my experience is limeted to old american cars 30's to 60s so i'm a pretty low tec guy . any help trouble shooting this car would be greatly appreciated . thanks, tom .

Hi Tom - certainly a nice gift! There are a few schematics just off of the home page link below - maybe the 78 will get you close. Someone else here might have a better idea for you.

If you get a Bentley manual, it's a little costly but better than a haynes.

Good luck.

Tom,

This 14-pin connector chart is for the '78-'79 SC's which is very similar to '77 with very minor difference in the over-all wiring circuitry. For starter, check and confirm the wire colors in your 14-pin connector. The major difference between '77 and the SC's is the CDI. Three (3) pins for '77 and 6-pin for the SC's.

This is a reference table that I prepared for my troubleshooting guide and been very useful in my work. Everyone is encourage to review this table and kindly PM me if there is something that I should edit.

Got a decent scanner for X'mas and should be able to send you some colored wiring schematics for '77 taken from the Porsche shop manual. Thanks.

Tony
