Question Hi Torque Starter Wiring Question

As I was reconnecting axles to tranny after engine drop, I noticed that I neglected to connect the thick black wire in the pic which I believe to be the battery connection.

Question: Which side of my starter does this connect to? I thought it went to the same terminal as the red ign switch wire but the black wire is too short to reach that far. Does it connect to the near side, under the gray rubber protector in the pic?

BTW, this is not covered specifically in the Pelican Parts tech article on the topic - I checked.

Thanks!

Well, the simple answer is ... it attaches to the only 10 mm or 3/8" copper or brass-colored stud you find on the starter!!! There will only be one that large.

Since I don't recognize the starter in the picture, I don't know if it is under the gray rubber boot or not, but that is usually what those kinds of boots are there for!

Warren,

Thanks for the reply. There are actually two terminals on this starter and I assume that it doesn't make sense for the ignition switch wire AND the battery cable to connect to the same pole, right?

Thanks,

Hello

Doesn´t look like a Tilton so the best would be you ask the saler for support.

Now the red cable ? does run to your CIS system you need a yellow wire to hook up on a small post normaly the post has the number 50. The red cable goes on 50 too or on a other small post.

The fat black wire is your plus and shorting it will start welding the cable into your car or blows the battery. Those wires allways go on a isolatet stud post.

Number 30 or a big * should indicate that.

If you go on the gray connector then you will cut out the selenoid and the starter will run as long the wire is hooked up and the battery has power.

If it is to short you have to pull some from the trunk trough the bulkhead the tunnel into the rear.

Not having seen this particular starter either. The large black battery cable should connect to the large terminal on the solenoid. There should be another large capacity conductor from the solenoid directly to the starter motor. When the solenoid is energized, internal contacts connect battery voltage from the solenoid to the starter motor; the pinion gear also moves out to engage the flywheel ring gear.

To energize the solenoid, there is a smaller gauge wire from the ignition switch (not sure which color) that goes to one of the smaller terminals on the solenoid. This wire carries system voltage only when the ign. switch rotates to the "crank" position. You may have a second small terminal on the solenoid to supply voltage to the ignition system during normal running.

Since the above is theoretical versus real world, your car "specific", I'd also suggest contacting the manufacturer.
