Removing electric flag mirrors

Who knows how to remove wires from the din plug so you don't have to chop them off at the door skin?

I'd like to hear that it's not impossible...

There's a small tool to release the pins - not sure where it's available but I couldn't get anything else
(small screwdriver, etc.) do the job.

I made my own tool out of some 1/8 brass tubing from the local hobby shop. As I remember it slides right in perfect to push in the clips.

just a slip fit then? any tricks to pressing these out?

Slide the tube over the pin and pull on the wire, it should pull right out. Then you can see why.

Also, I think that Radio Shack sells the pin tool.

I found an old plug, not the best pic but here are the tabs you are trying to compress with the tube, you have too push it in good and snug.

once the pin has been sleeved does the wire/pin slide out easily? i've heard of folks breaking them trying to get them out.

mine pulled out very easy. You will kind of hear the took click in when it goes and don't pull on the wire until the tool is in place.

looking at the pin it appears the flare at the wire end would make it even easier to replace the pins, (assuming you remember where they belong), when you put the connector back together, is this right? do you even need the tool to reassemble them?

and you can see why a screwdriver would have a hard time doing the job.

They just push and snap back in, no tool needed.

Well done, Craig, that pretty much puts this one to rest. If it wasn’t already dark and snowing I’d want to go right out to the garage and get on it myself. I’ll have to wait but thanks a ton. It’s really very helpful.
