What makes me cringe are the pictures of the somewhat expensive McLaren F1 road cars in the second row. Aren't they carbon fiber monocoque? Can you even repair this?

I'm surprised at how well the passenger compartment holds up in a head-on crash on the new C5 Corvettes. I wonder if all that fiberglass absorbs a lot of the impact and breaks up, thus dissipating the energy of the crash. From these photos it seems like the new Vette is a safe car. Of course, some of the really bad wrecks are hard to identify. and this is really a small sample.

The moral lesson of this site? Minivans and Yugos NEVER crash! Right? It's only people in fast and fuel burning cars who crash, and DIE! If you have a car designed to handle speed? YOU WILL DIE! Well, I know I'm going to die. But at age 58, fast cars haven't killed me yet. This site is propaganda, pure & simple. edit: Think about this site...it infers that ONLY high performance cars have wrecks. Now, how about a site that infers ONLY people of color commit crime? Can you imagine the outrage if ONLY mug shots of racial minorities were shown on a site? Recent news article in this area..an elderly couple in a Lincoln town car lost it in the light snowfall we had, the wife died. Why no Lincoln Town Cars on this site? No Volvos? No Saabs? Okay, think you're getting the point of my rant...prejudice is prejudice. And this site reeks of prejudice. My 2/100ths of a dollar...

After the standard 30mph head on collision test into concrete the McClaren was in drivable condition. It had a dummy engine so they didn't obviously but that is amazing! I would cry if I crashed one of those.

pwd72s- You're right. This is what I say "I'd rather speed in a sports car designed to speed than be some dumb*** going 80mph on back roads in a beater that tops out at 85mph."

uh, with all due respect...i dont think its a propaganda site (judging from the disclaimer)...it seemed to me it was put up by a car guy collecting pics of exotic cars that have crashed...who cares about a site full of tercels all banged up...we tercels on the road everyday..and at least most of us has probably seen a crashed one at some point...how often do you see ferrari's or diablo's? let alone crashed?

In the past Corevettes had the highest fatality/accident rate of any American car, but no one was really sure if it was because the Corvette body was made of fiberglass or because their owners were driving faster than they normally would in their Cadilacs.
The new Corvette is much safer mainly due to the hyrdoformed steel frame rails which make up the major portion of the unit body. Fiberglass is poor at absorbing energy, making our cars much safer overall.
