Gear shifter moving under acceleration

Hey folks, didn't find anything on this after a forum search, so thought I'd throw it out there.

I've got an '87 Carrera (my first ) that seems to have been well-maintained by previous owners. The shifting seems relatively accurate, but primarily in 2nd and 3rd gears, with my hand on the shift knob, the shifter moves by about a half to 1 inch when accelerating. I have no clue what is causing this. Any thoughts? Is this normal on an '87 or is this a cause for concern? Shift bushings? coupler? Maybe a transmission mount or something (I hope not).

Please let me know your thoughts.

Blake

I would look at motor and transmission mounts, followed by rear suspension bushings

maybe not "bad" but keep an eye on it....and know the parts involved are good. You might cruise the records and see what's been done back there... I found out I had some parts already replaced that I was going to buy...records saved me the $ and hassle....
