Post gurgling noise

With engine running at idle there is a gurgling sound coming from inside engine compartment but haven't sourced it yet. I thought I remembered someone posting the source of these sounds.

Believe it or not, the sound (gurgling) may come from the oil filter. Seen and heard it once, the filter was somehow faulty, changed that and the noise went away.

It can also be the sound of oil moving through the oil cooler lines to the front oil cooler, I used to hear it regularly on my 79 SC, really drove me crazy until I figured out what it was.

fram oil filters are the usual culprit.

Hey, John-

Is there something I don't know about Fram filters? I've been using them since I started driving on most of my daily drivers and never had a problem. (That's a lot of filters!) Do they use some sort of inferior design or something on the P-car versions? I've never used on one my Porsche before, but now you've got me curious-

I've only been using the Mahle brand oil filters. Could it be a vacuum leak?

i don't know why they tend to gurgle, but i've heard it a lot. when replaced with a mahle it goes away. heard some say it was a check valve problem, but i don't see any in there.

I put a Fram on my car and it gurgled loudly. I very quickly installed the Mahle and have not heard the noise since.

If you could hold the two filters in your hands, I suspect you'd see the difference. The Mahle is actually pretty impressive, and I think I saw a check valve in it.
