I completed the factory driver series months ago. IMO, that was the best part of the game! I'm going through the evolution series: having fun with a 2.7 Carrera!
Anyone else finish the factory driver series? Hmm...maybe I'll bust out the ol' joystick and do a couple of laps tonight! -Z.

OT, but if you're interested in getting the arcade feel (and you dig DIY projects), check out www.arcadeathome.com
Many annoying pop-ups, but the "Controls" link has great advice on creating arcade-authentic driving controls (you have to dig to find the how-to's though). Cheers |

I was going to say something to the tune of "I can't believe how many grown men are sitting here talking about a playstation game."
....but then I thought: "SCWDP"... ... I'll defer.

The game is awesome. I like the fact that when you let off of the gas the tone of the engine sound changes as in a real car during engine braking.
I have finished factory driver and evolution mode several times and just keep going through them again and again. Haven't played it in a while though because I've been trying to conquer GPL which is very tough. If you have a 500MHz PII and are having problems you may want to check your video card or video card drivers. I run mine on a celeron 450 with TNT2 video card and 128MB RAM Win98SE. I've since upgraded, but never had any problems with the old setup. I would think a Voodoo 5 should be enough to run the game well. Something is amiss if you are having problems. I don't think it should have any problems running under ME which is basically the same as 98. maybe with more details the board could help.

I've got the same problem with the Windows ME. I can't get the game to work because of some files that appear to be missing. I'm going to have to check to see if my drivers need updating.
If any of you know how to fix this WinME issue, please let us know! |

Glad to see others out there playing NFS! I am amazed at how the Carrera 2.7 RS is to drive. I can drive the heck out of that car. One of the best power to handling combos in the game...mirroring real life???
For those having problems with frame rates (choppy graphics) pull up your system tray and close out a bunch of the backround stuff. I found that I had enough stuff going on that once I hit the 911s in evolution the game was unplayable. Check out the following link to EA's customer support for a detailed description. They did a good job explaining: http://techsupport.ea.com/troubleshooting/windows/background.html For Windows ME issues you can look to this address although not sure how much help you will get from it: http://techsupport.ea.com/troubleshooting/windows/directx.html You might also be having a problem with the game not being able to change the graphics setting when you try to load it. I suggest changing your settings manually to get your system "in sync" prior to loading the game (note EA recommends this as well): Go to Start. Select Settings then Control Panel. Double-click on the Display icon. Click on the Settings tab and you will see your current color setting and resolution. Change these to match the game's settings. Setting the desktop to 800x600 and 16-bit high color is usually the most compatible setting As for missing files...I would suggest reloading if you haven't already done so. Hope this helps!

To get all the tracks, you need to do the evolution mode. Start with a 356, and work your way up to a 996TT. At the end of each "era" you get to try for a race car, a 550, for the "classic" era, a 935 for the "golden" era, and a GT1 for the "Modern" era. The factory driver has some of the most fun races, but some of the stunts they want you to pull are really hard. The 360's in particular.
I finished the evolution mode 3 times, and the factory twice. Now I mostly do single player, with traffic on to make it harder. You can also change the diffulty by changing the class of cars the opponents use. I like using either a 73RS or the 72S against random cars from the golden era, which includes 930's, 944 turbos, 959s and 935s. In an RS I can normally beat 930's and 959's, but 935's just walk away. I did a little digging, and found 2 discussion boards on the Need For Speed games. Maybe they have an answer to the Windows ME problem in their archives. http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~nfscheats/ubb/non-cgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum&f=1 http://www.nfsunlimited.net/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=needforspeed Tom |
