Need help removing climate control panel

I am having some of my interior switched to carbon fiber, the center part of the dash, above the knee pad, the glove box door, and I also want to have the back panel that holds the air conditioning controls and the hazard light/defroster buttons in carbon fiber.

It seems like the part with the air conditioning controls wants to slide out - but, I get it to a certain point and it hangs up - I don't want to break any important plastic bits - so I figured I would stop and ask...

This is the panel I am talking about. Any secrets to getting those two pieces out?

Remove the outer shell of the center consol held by 2 screws as I recall, it will show the retaining screws that hold the two assemblies in place, then gently slide out. Take care the wires are pretty short so be gentle :-)
