NFS Porsche Unleashed & too much free time (pics)

I was playing a little Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed this evening, and had a rather spectacular crash. I thought it was pretty entertaining (mostly because nobody died, and I don't have to pay for the damage) so I saved the replay, as I have done several times before. I was bored, so I went through my saved replays and took some screenshots of some of the good ones.

This is this evening's crash, 72 911S in the Alps. Another car clipped me, and I went into the armco of the left side of the track. It shot me back into traffic, where I swapped ends and across and up the hill on the other side. In this pic, I am still gaining altitude.

Same crash, coming back down.

A similar off track excursion, also in the Alps, but this time in a 935

Getting loose in a 930, in Normandy. Note the traffic ahead, and the smoke coming off the skid marks.

A few seconds later, still not quite under control (but still full throttle), threading the needle

73 RS in Auvergne, with traffic. This doesn't look as close as if felt when I did it. I think I was in 4th gear, so I was hauling butt.

Here are some rather unorthodox passes, first in a C4S

and in a 930

And in a GT1. That is me on the bottom. Notice the car above me lost a headlight whe he hit the wall that sent him skyward:

About to take the lead, also in the Alps. The white car to the right is the leader. He lost it on a corner, skidded across a frozen lake and got good air off the shore.

Pretty fun game, much more fun with a force feedback steering wheel and pedals. Really sucks Electronic Arts stopped hosting the online multiplayer servers.

Tom

Tom,

those are some cool shots. You must be the unleashed god.

I have the game and am a relative beginner since I have no idea how to access those cars are scenery you are showing.

emcon5,

There are some amazing maps to explore in that game. I love running my 73 RS on "Autobahn" and when I get to the toll gate, I aim for the dip in the road, so that you get a good jump, turn hard left and use the handbrake and fly through the screeching tollgate, sideways AND airborne!!

Another favourite was on the back section of "Alps", where the roads are clear of snow... Just near the finish line, I usually wind up my 996 Turbo (which is amazingly fast) and aim for a large piece of embankment, launching the car into orbit! Usually you can cross the finish line at approximately 35,000ft.

btw, Tom,

How do you take those screenshots? Is it an option in the game?

I think that when you choose the replay mode, you can take still images that you save to disk.

Those are great pics I like the game too. It's amazing how good the engine sound is. Most other car games are not as developed in that area.

One question: Why is there no Carrera 3.2 in the game????

Mikkel,

It's the only downfall of that game. They completely neglected the impact bumper cars with the exception of the 3.0 & 3.3 930s.

No SCs (SCWDP should have a patch coming soon!)
No 3.2s
No 2.7s (Well, except for the RS)
No 968

A great game, though, despite these omissions.

In regards to the lack of SCs in the game I would like to clarify.

We had numerous meeting with the games creators, who approached "us" wanting to use a SCWDP-Powered SC for the new NFS. Negotiations fell through when they refused to write the game where the SC wins everytime. ... I dunno... it made perfect sense to me...

So anyway, we aren't on speaking terms now....so as a result...no SCs on the game.

I just started playing now that I have a feedback steering wheel. Great game. I'm still driving 356's though. The steering wheel makes all the difference. Enjoyed the pix. Thanks, Doug

They have a 924, I wasn't aware of that one. I need to start taking some screen shots and stuff, they'd make some fun wallpapers for Windows
I need to find something fun to do w/ that game...You can only go so far when you are addicted and are the factory lead test driver and won all the races...Anyone know of any fun extra tracks you can download or anything?

Nathan

PS: Wish they had the fun 916 or 914/6, oh well.

The version emcom is showing is from a PC. There is aversion for Playstation, it is good, and well worth the purchase, but not as good as the PC version. And it is for the PS 1, not PS 2. The best part is it's like $19 or less at Wal-mart or other chain stores.

My wife got me Need for Speed last year and I've never been able to get it to work.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get it to run properly on either Windows ME or Windows XP Pro? It appears to me that the game was written for earlier versions of windows and it is not supported by the later ones. Does this seem right?

I am able to install it but not able to play. Any suggestions for the barely computer literate?

Thanks very much,

Jess

P.S. If there is no way for me to get it to work, who wants it?

I lost my NFS: PU CD, and it's killing me! I've been searcing everywhere for it! God I love that game. I conqured it in August last year. I recieved every car possible in that game (bought them all, or won them, or D/L'd them.) For every modified version of a car, also, I had a stock version. Had so many cars I had to open up two player names! Nearly 100 cars!

Hey Jess,
The game isn't officially supported on Windows XP but I've had some luck in getting it to run on SOME XP machines by deleting or renaming the GIMME.DLL file in the main NFS directory. Give it a try.

I also got the game for Xmas- was so excited I went out a got a force feedback wheel & pedals, but the game does not operate correctly... it is choppy.. race-pause-race-pause... etc..
I have a pent2 500meg, and a Voodo5 PCI video card. Other games (Teamfortress- which is a blast) works great, but this game is so choppy it is just no fun to play. I make an input, then wait for the pause to end to see what effect my the input had- impossible to race!! Any suggestions?

My game was choppy too until a friend gave me a new video car for my birthday. Now, I run at hi-res and all the graphics at max. Gotta love sun spots through Normandie and reflections on the Autobahn. A vidio card will make all the differance.

I have been so used to using the keyboard (and have gotten quite used to it) that I find it very hard to drive fast and on the edge with a wheel. I'm sure I just need more practice.

Have fun all,
