1969 gauge issue

I have read all of the threads I can find on pelican regarding removal and dismantling of the gauges. All very helpful EXCEPT...am I crazy or does my 1969 911e come with gauges that are different in the way they are assembled than the newer ones in the how too's.

I cannot seem to remove the glass bezel from the gauge body.

I am referring to the gas/oil gauge. I have it totally apart except the glass. My little silver middle button fell off and I cannot put it back with out removing the glass bezel plus I would like to clean the glass.

This bezel does not seem to be crimped on like the newer ones (I have an 84 also and it is not the same). I cannot even fit a razor blade btwn the black bezel ring and the gauge body. Threads recommend a screwdriver???

Is it glued or made to not come apart?

Your help is appreciated.

Steve

Can you post a photo? I have a 69 and a 73 and both have bezels on the gauges that can be pried up to remove the glass. The fact you cannot fit a razor blade between the gauge body and bezel lip sounds unusual. A picture would certainly get some responses.

Thanks for the response. I should have taken pics. I managed to clean the glass and re glue the button without removing the glass. It was no picnic though. I may try to clean the other gauges and will post pics if I run into the same issue.

agreed, a photo would help a lot....I've got a few of the gauges out of my '69 S, and the construction is typical VDO, uncrimp the ring, pop glass off, clean, replace seal and bezel and reinstall.
