Frequency Valve Relay Question #2
I have an '82 Targa SC....
When I changed my frequency valve relay my idle speed dropped way down and started idle hunting (when I increased the idle speed). Is my car now running too rich? Could the po have adjusted the co mixture to compensate for running without a freq valve/o2 sensor relay? Is my o2 sensor bad? I have not yet received the Bentley manual I ordered... could someone tell me where the o2 sensor wire is located so I can disconnect it? Also where is the co mixture adjustment screw? thanks |
Yes, you have to readjust the mixture now that the frequency valve is actually doing its job. I'm sure the previous owner adjusted it to compensate when the old relay quit.
On the plus side, once you get it set right, the car will perform like never before! You really should have a shop adjust it that knows CIS and has a gas analyzer. They shouldn't charge much, it's a 10 minute job. |
One more thing. You will almost certainly need to reset timing and idle speed after resetting the mixture. Then recheck the mixture after resetting the timing.
It's amazing how much they affect each other on the CIS cars. |
I had the co mixture and the time adjusted at a local shop (timing off by 45 deg).
Car does run GREAT!!!! thanks all |
