Alarm on a 1979SC?

I came out from work this morning and when I unlocked the door, the horn made a quick honk. When I opened the door, the horn honked. When I tried to start the car, the horn honked, but the car would not run. It would turn over and run for a second, then die. Every time I open the trunk, doors etc...the horn honks. I disconnected the horns and it's still honking somewhere. The car had been parked at work for 48 hours and during that time it snowed and then melted.

Could the car have an alarm system? If so, would it disable the starting? I disocnnected the battery, but when I reconnect it the problem comes back. So, for now the car is sitting at work.

It is a Euro 79SC. I don't see any aftermarket alarm stuff on the car which is bone stock.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Todd

The factory alarm is key operated and is located on the drivers door above the strike mechanism. I can't help with the actual problem but at least you'll know whether it has a factory alarm.

the mystery honking horn is above the splash guard that's protecting the rack and pinion. it' s only about 3 1/2" and easy to miss, until you say to yourself what the heck is that horn doing in here? there are many threads on the factory, and aftermarket, alarms on the board. Bill K

Todd,

Is there a key lock on the back jamb edge of the driver's door itself? You can only see it when the door is open.

If so, it has a factory alarm. You need an alarm key to turn it off.

If not, there is an aftermarket alarm that's reared it's head. Would have had a key fob or a button on/under the dash.

Got it figured out! The car does have a factory alarm, but I don't have a key. I unplugged the alarm module from behind the fresh air blower motor and it's good as gold! I love it when a problem is solved, for free!
