Center A/C vent doesn't work after reversing wipers
I reversed my wipers for better visibility on the track. Doing this requires disconnecting vent hoses and moving the blower motor assembly out of the way. All went well, wipers out of the way, blower motor assembly back in place with hoses reconnected. But now I get no cold air through the center dash vent when running the A/C...the side vents work fine and the center floor vent is blowing cold air....great, so now my feet are cold! Anyone have ideas as to what I may have done?

I have an 81SC and never got ac through the center dash vent. I get it through the center port off the "firewall" behind the center console and the mini vents on the side.
You sure you are supposed to get ac through there? I hope you are right but I always thought that center dash vent was outside non ac / non heated air only. |
Have had it thru center vent in the past...
and now it sounds like I have what you have...coming out of the firewall vent behind the console...once others respond and I have it figured out, I'll let you know the details

You probably jostled the duct off the back of the center dash vent assembly. It barely hangs on even when positioned properly.
The duct simply 'slips on' the back of the center vent assembly behind the dash with a soft mushy seal. Peer in the vent with flashlight and look closely. Reach in from trunk side to slip it back on. blind tight squeeze for your arm from trunk but can be done by feel. But easy and takes 5 minutes. |
Thanks Mr. Schoward
Sounds right...I'll give it a try this weekend...and thank you so much for taking the time to write...

Pop the center duct out and you should see the plastic gizmo that the duct fits into. Get a helper to push the gizmo up to the duct opening from the front trunk, line it up and hold it there. Then you can line up the center duct and shove it home. Of course you can also remove all the heater hoses, blower, plenum, etc. and do the same thing. Careful with the little rubber seal on the gizmo, they're special order from Germany!!

Or you pry the clock out and reach in that way.
