1976 911 New clutch cable won't fit

Hey all I am new here but hope someone can help me out.
I am replacing a clutch cable for a customer and the new one is a bigger size cable and the end that goes on the release fork is a bit longer..so where the cable bends around the arm and then goes through a hole if i position it so that the exposed cable is at the bend it ends up being too short and I can't attach it at the pedal end.
Anyone ran into this before and is there a work around?
any help would be appreciated.

Have you got the clevis end adjusted at the right measurement?

You really cant just adjust a 911 clutch with no prior knowledge and no feeler gauges. You need to follow workshop manual instructions to the letter.

Well I tried backing the clevis off until there is about a quarter inch of the cable inside it and still too short.
The problem is the cables are the same overall length but the threaded end that goes onto the release fork is longer. With this style of fork the cable bends 90 degs around a curved piece and then through a hole.So having a longer threaded section makes you have to pull it further around the bend so that the cable rides on the bend.

there's a split year here. coupe chassis # up to 620 1200 uses 911 423 401 03. after that use 911 423 401 05. targa up to 621 1043 uses the 03 number, and after that uses the 05 number. just for reference, the earlier number back to 72 uses 911 423 401 00.

if you can find a 72-74 straight arm, the cable would last longer.

Thanks for the info.... Chassis # is 620 0188 so I have the wrong cable for the fork style..
So better to get the straight arm then and can I use the cable I have? # is 911-423-401-05-M74.

911 423 401 00 for the straight arm, but you may be able to cheat it with a spacer and you will probably need to cut it shorter on the threads so it doesn't hit the oil line under the bellhousing. a trunnion will be needed also. that's the block with ears that sits in the arm.

Another solution is to drill a hole and use spacers. See photo at end of this thread
