Recovering Dash Face

I am working on my version of a 911. It will be my weekend hot rod.
Started out as a 74 non sunroof / no air conditioning car with minimal rust. It is going to be a guards red yellowbird copy with a 3.2 L engine, and black interior.

It will not have heat nor a radio and as part of the finished product I want to replace the center part of the dash (left to right, the portion that contains a vent outlet, light switch, four way flasher, ignition, heater/vent controls, radio, fog light switch, lighter, glove box cover and right side vent) and want to do it with red leather to contrast with the black interior.

Have any of you done such a thing, and if so:
1. did you reuse the factory pieces and recover them? If so what did you do to fill in the holes or openings that were no longer used?

2. or did you make new pieces and have them recovered

Any pictures of your project that you would share?

Dale

I just did mine this weekend. After being frustrated over the poor fit of one those "dash caps", I tore the whole thing off and did something like you are planning.

First I filled the speaker holes with sheet metal that I formed to cover them and used a spot welder to tack the patches in.(sorry, no pics of that)
Then I covered the top with 1/4" thick medium density foam using 3M spray adhesive.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1295931020.jpg

Then, using the same spray adhesive I glued down some black vinyl over the top.

This weekend I'll finish trimming everything and it's done.

RKT:

Thank you for the picture. I agree with porschenut that your interior is really good looking. And, if you have some more pictures especially of the center where the radio delete happened, please attach a few.
