Exhaust fit: 911sc for 3.2?

Hello, everyone this is my first post on here. There was a similar question in a previous post but related to the heat exchangers.

Does anybody know if a rear box / silencer from a 911SC (79-83) rear will fit onto my 911 3.2?

if you are still using the stock heat exchanger setup, then yes, the mufflers are identical.

One inlet, where as olders style mufflers will have dual inlets.

Welcome to the forum, do you have any pics of your car?, What year is it? Stock, modified??

Just realised this was my 5K anniversary post, I hope it was helpful.

Thanks for the helpful note, mine's an 89 Carrera Sport. I will try and post some pictures when I get home.

I think the exhaust is stock configuration with 1 inlet and 1 outlet. I will get my head under her and double check.

I just spoke to a guy and he has a second hand one which will go straight on, but he said that the 3.2 rear box had a slight cut out some where so that it fits. I have not seen any other reference to this - I will check when under the car what mine looks like.

Can anybody confirm what this cut out is? The appear the same from looking at web pictures and the previous post confirms this.

Why are you replacing it? Is yours rusted?
I just bought an M&K muffler.
Ben (mb911)on this BBS makes them and they get very good reactions. Light, great sound and good power!

The muffler has a recess on the front to give you clearance for the heat tube running to the heat box.
If youre talking about the heat box, the SC has smaller blow proofs inserting into the head but the rest of the heat box is identical.

I mean the muffler (rear box / silencer right?), not the heat box.

Do you know which muffler has the recess for the heat tube: SC or 3.2?

Quick and cheap, then a stock muffler will do fine. If you ever feel the need to upgrade, M&K is worth considering (and not all that expensive either IMO)

the muffler for the 3.2 has detents in both sides and a deeper v formed into the center. Bill K

It's my understanding that yes a 3.2 muffler (silencer) will bolt up to a 3.0 no problem.

A 3.0 muffler will bolt to a 3.2 but you'll have the clearance the inside to make room for the heat pipe. This could be a pain but it's doable.

Bill: that's useful, so if I use an SC muffler (without the detents or V) will it fit on a 3.2?

This is the one from the SC, I see what the problem is. I guess you have to try and see if it can be offered up, jiggled around and squashed in

I could get a 3.2, 2 outlet box instead. A local guy has a stainless steel one that was used a few times on a racecar and might part with it for less then what you normally pay. If I get a 2 outlet, then I think I will need to cut the rear bumper to access for the second pipe.

Does anybody know if the twin rear box systems a lot more noisy, deep, powerful, etc...

Pobably not much noisier, (2 in,2out is louder)
Much depends on the muffler, design, manufacturer.... Not all louder mufflers give more HP.
Stainless steel will of course last longer, if well made.

EDIT: I said in my first post that the mufflers for a 3.0 and a 3.2 were identical. Not quite.
What others said about the indentations for the heater pipe is correct.
