i just pulled 3 of my MFI injectors for cleaning. externally, they didn't look bad. i'm soaking them in Berryman's B12 and plan to clean them ultrasonically overnight.
however, without pressurizing them with a cleaning agent, will the insides really get clean? has anyone had any luck with this technique? |

People that have used an industrial ultrasonic cleaner with adjustable heater and timer have reported great results ... machine needs to have stainless steel tank, and the B-12 gets heated to 120 degrees F, and timer to 6-8 hours.

I did the ultrasonic thing as Warren described above; worked great. I also used a injector spray pattern checker to blow solvent through them. This seemed to blow out a lot of garbage broken loose by the bath. If you don't have access to one of these, perhaps try using your fuel system to pressurize your injectors and clean them out before installation.
HOWEVER- I can't stress enough the need for safety and caution during this procedure, if you do use your car to pressurize. Remove and cap your coil wire; insert the injector into an old milk jug or something before testing; ground yourself, the injector, etc... ------------------ Dave 1972 911T (E motor) RSR replica project http://members.nbci.com/dtwinters/garage/ |

I fabricated an injector spray tester out of an old VW Brake Master Cylinder.
If you decide to do the testing on the engine, BE SURE TO DISCONNECT THE CDI-unit PLUG!!! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

i really feel stupid...........but.......i had one of those plastic jewelery cleaners. i made a nice aluminum foil lining for it, then filled it up with B-12. in go 3 injectors and off we go.
i put the unit in my upstairs bathroom so i could keep an eye on it. my wife was yakkin' at me all night about "bringing that smelly car stuff in the house". about an hour later, i'm checking out the 911 Bulletin Board in the next room, and i start smelling fumes from the bathroom. i'm sure you guys know what's coming next......... i checked on the cleaner and apparently my aluminum foil lining leaked. the B-12 melted the plastic cleaner and had leaked all over the bathroom counter top (that is, my WIFE's counter top). thank God she chose last night to read a book in the spare bedroom. if she had walked in and found a counter full of B-12, she would have made me sell both my porsches ! she already caught me once before using her turkey baster to remove excess oil from my oil tank. i cleaned up the mess before she found out and i'm alive to tell the story ! |
