1997 6 speed G-50 transmission - Value?
I may have found an engine - 993 1997 - with 54K miles - - but the kicker is I may have to buy the whole engine and transmission as a package.
Anybody give me a ballpark for a 6 speed G-50 - I am going to assume no LSD - I've looked - and they seem to be all over the place - saw one for $8400 - and one for $1100 - what would be reasonable for a <30 day sale?

I bought a G50 out of an early 1995 993 (more desirable as it has an RSR main shaft with a removable second gear) with an LSD that had 60K on it for $4750 last year and I though it was a pretty decent deal. For a 1997 w/o a LSD and similar mileage I would say $4000 OBO is probably a reasonable deal. The RSR main shaft is ~$1500 should the new owner want to change the 2nd gear ratio and a worn out factory LSD is ~$500 which any of them are after 60k miles.
Why don't you keep it and put it in your car? After going from a 901 to a G50 to now a 915, a G50 is on my mod list for my current car. I just spent $4k in parts going through my 915 recently (3.0L main shaft, aluminum side cover, aluminum nose cone, all new syncros and dog teeth) after breaking the retaining teeth off the 2.7L main shaft with only a strong 3.0L and I still will go to a G50 before dropping the money on a LSD. |
