911 specific tools

As part of a garage renovation I'm going to get a good quality mechanics tool kit to replace the motley assortment of tools I have collected over the years. The tools will mainly be used for prepping a historic circuit car (69 911E) and a tarmac rally car (911ST clone) for events and also general maintenance/fixes etc.

What 911 specific tools would you recommend adding to a general mechanic's tool kit.

My list so far includes:

- fan belt pulley removal tools (have)
- socket for steering wheel nut (have)
- jacking plug/base (have)
- long socket for wheel nuts on long studs (have)
- breaker bar (have)
- torque wrench (have)
- ratchet spanner for sway bar drop links
- MFI pump tools (have)

What makes your life easier when working on (early) 911's?

Good compressor and quality impact gun along with high speed grinder and a good assortment of rotary bits/cutting discs ...
Propane torch with MAP gas (yellow bottle ) for removing stubborn parts without snapping them !
Good variety of 3/8 drive extensions and 1/2 drive impact sockets, short and long ...
I could go on all night as a man never owns too many tools ... lol

Hope you had a Happy Australia Day !

Cheers :)

Thanks guys - good stuff. Got the spark plug tool and a few of the other bits mentioned, but wouldn't have thought of the torch.

Phil: Thanks, we had a great Australia Day - showing a bunch of visitors from the UK what sunshine is!

One of my favorite special tool......

Once you tried using this 13-mm special tool, you would likely never going to use the regular box/open wrenches again for your next valve adjustment work. Using the right tool for any job makes the task easier and enjoyable.

Where is that available?

Schley Products #88900 <---For 13mm nut

Astro Pneumatics #AP 7819 <---has several sets, including 13mm

Each is about $35-50 online. The Schley products is *probably* a far better built piece.

This is a 'Blue Point' YA8890 13-mm. I bought it from Snap-On tools.

large allen head socket to change transmission fluid. can't remember size (17mm???) but you can find it in a search. If your front struts don't have a way to keep the strut from spinning while you turn nut, you need an adjustable spanner wrench (got mine on ebay) to hold the big washer in place (notch on washer) so the strut doesn't spin when you try to remove nut.
