Throttle Cable Install - my first write up
 

After 25 years the throttle linkage on my 3.2 was kinda loose and wobbly. So I decided to ditch the whole thing and go with a cable from loud pedal to throttle body.

I purchased a Lokar cable 84" long and it just made it, with nothing to spare.

Here's how it went, starting at the pedals.

I ground off the ball, drilled through and used the clevis that came with the kit.

Then I fabbed up a bracket to secure the outer jacket.

This fits inside the tunnel in the forward opening. Notice the unused holes in the first photo. I moved the bracket back to give me a couple of additional inches in the rear.

Here it is installed with the cable attached.

OK now moving to the rear. I fabbed another bracket to secure the outer and a link to connect the inner wire to the throttle body.

That is an M5 thread that screws into the orig linkage end fitting

Now the upper brkt is mounted where the old link plate thingy used to go

Obviously this was all figured out with the engine out of the car.

Next install motor.

The cable feeds up and over the driveshaft and through the engine tin

Fiddle cable into position, and set adjustment to mid range.

Here's the upper link, you can't see the cable, 'cos I can't get the cam in there, but you can imagine it. Pull the cable tight, cut off the excess and secure to the link with a set screw.

Out on the road it works great: a nice positive connection between the foot and the boiler room.

The only one issue is that the cable stretches: I adjusted it perfectly only to find it sloppy after a few days.

It's easy enough to clip off 1/2" and readjust.

Next time I would prestretch the cable with a weight.
