Loose Fan Belt - how to tighten..
Started the car this morning (barely) and I noticed the fan belt was rattling pretty badly.
Would a very loose fan belt cause problems when starting? The car would start, shut off, start, shut off, about 6 times before it eventually got gonig.... Is it just a matter of tightening the nut? Thanks.

I'm assuming that by "just tightening the nut" you do understand the business of exchanging spacer shims from between the fan pulley halves to the position directly under the nut, right? Right.
Can't imagine what a loose fan belt would have to do with starting problems, unless it was that it kept the alternator from charging and thus the starter wouldn't crank, but you don't seem to be having that problem at all, if you're able to restart it half a dozen times in a row. Stephan

Perhaps there isnt a connection between the staring problem and the (loose) fan belt.
The car was running very well....I had it sitting for 2 days in the cold ice and snow and this starting problem surfaced....start and die, start and die.....1/2 dozen times to get it idling....could be a vacuum line and/or fuel line clogged. Fuel pump sounds fine, checked all fuses and relays, look good....pop-off valve is not dislodged so there is a good seal there with no air holes for vacuum leak. gotta keep looking
