*NEW* S-Caliper Pistons at Pelican

Hi Gang,

These are new and now available through Pelican Parts... Meet the solution for the ill-fated S-Caliper piston. You’re looking at the new DuroAno® S-Caliper pistons with metallurgy technology borrowed from every amazing caliper since the 917 caliper.

The idea came to us when we kept seeing S-Caliper pistons flake and fail due to dis-similar metal fusion and original “plated” pistons. The question; why dis-similar metal when we could use similar metal? 930 calipers have aluminum pistons. 951 calipers have aluminum pistons. 908 calipers have aluminum pistons... why not S-Calipers?

The coating process was a key component. As technology progressed, so did the coating process. These new aluminum pistons are harder and more durable than their original or stainless counterparts. The hard anodized coating process makes them the perfect piston for the S-Caliper.

They are feather weight was well. These weigh 1/2 of what a stock S-Caliper piston weighs.

Put an end to S-Caliper woes. These pistons will right the original wrong and last forever.

You can see it in the Pelican online catalog here.

Is that a special alloy or something? Looks expensive for what is a 2 minute lathe part. Porsche tax?
Oh yeah... I stick it to my fellow Porsche owner every chance I get!

Feel free to make up a batch (don't forget the complicated knockback mechanism cavity underneath and the contoured tops), vibratory polish them, have them hard anodized, inventory them, deal with stupid questions like this, box them, print shipping labels and ship them out and compete. Free world.

Or... you could buy these and spend about $80.00 more:

Porsche 911 Brake Hydraulics - Page 2

P.S. Holy $&i^ Bullet... I just checked out the pricing on the Rothsport stuff you make. I see you are familiar with "Porsche Tax"! So a $69.00 fan pulley requires "that" much more work than this $45 piston? Looks like you should be the last one throwing the pricing stones around here.

Very nice

Dissimilar metal fusion is very common in the automotive world. Have you ever seen an aluminum wheel fuse to a steel hub or brake rotor. How about the exhaust studs in an air cooled aluminum 911 motor. Galvanic corrosion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Why all the attacks on this guys product??? It looks like a great product to me and I'm always in favor of someone creating new products for old 911's when so many parts are becoming NLA.

No kidding. More and more parts are no longer available for our old cars. We want more people like Eric to spend their time and money to give us solutions. If the product doesn't interest you, then don't buy it.

Thanks - Sorry

Sorry the thread had to take this turn. I should have responded a little more appropriately to Bullet Bob's comment that I was applying some type of "Porsche Tax".

Those comments really hit home as I began building my first beetle in 1976 with el cheapo parts from the JC Whitney catalog... moved up to a 914... moved on to a 911 and have loved the mark, the cars and the people I've met along the way from a "ground up/organic" perspective, so to speak.

I've restored numerous Porsche's and I've felt the "twinge" when I knew I was having the "Porsche Tax" applied to me. I really found it hard to believe I was getting called out on a set of pistons that:

a ) not only offer a much better solution than the stock or stainless counterparts but,
b ) come in 25% "Less" than the current SS set sold here...

One of the main reasons I got into the business of restoring calipers and doing this type of stuff is to "help" us p-car guys by offering a good service at a good price. No gouging. I charge the same price for 914 guys as I do 911 guys as I do Ferrari guys (which had been paying a LOT more) as I do Alfa guys... One of the most common questions I get is; "Don't you charge the 911/Ferrari guys more?" NO.

Bottom line. The "Porsche Tax" comment is malicious, it doesn't make sense and I wrongfully replied "in-kind" to the errant comment. Bob... if you're reading, maybe I'm paying too much. If you'd like to bid the next batch, perhaps we could lower the pricing and all win. I'm very intimate with the market for stainless pistons as I sell a wide variety of them myself, everything from 356 to 88 Carrera pistons. Given the quality of "this" product and its features/benefits to the end user, I think the pricing is "extremely" fair... that's exactly why and how I priced it. Fair. I've learned to be wrong though.

In my 10 years of rebuilding calipers, I honestly think this is the very best solution I've ever seen offered for an S-Caliper (which 99% have bad pistons... trust me). If you don't want to pay a couple bucks per piston more (or less in this case) for the best product for your car... that's your prerogative. But, before accusing me of applying a "Porsche Tax", please research the market and report back. I'm "extremely" confident that those who do will be happy with the pricing.

I've built my business on fair pricing and honest service. I've built thousands of calipers for people (many whom I consider very good friends) here, on the Early S Registry and 914World. I'm more than confident that they will weigh in on my philosophy regarding "gouging" Porsche owners.

Thanks,

Eric

Eric turned these core calipers-

Into this (914-6GT)-

For a great price. His service is outstanding and he has spent hours with me educating and helping me with my 914-6 conversion. I've also purchased Brebos, 914 calipers, Bilstein shocks and other parts from him that he special ordered and barely marked up. Erics one of the guys whose a real credit to the Porsche boards. I've never met Eric in person but I owe him alot. If you have any doubt, please call me 302.355.0684. I'm in Wilmington Delaware

PS - Those pistons look like a very fair price considering the R&D, cost to produce, stock, ect.

So these are the secret you had planned for my S-Calipers! Awesome deal Eric!

FTW: Eric has always done right by me! My 914 is running PMB brakes and a few other goodies. He is one of the few vendors out there that isn't looking to make a Ford GT payment off of hiking up prices!

Eric,
You currently have my calipers. I'LL be going with the new aluminum pistons.
I can't wait to see them back on the longhood. Oh and I don't mind paying alittle porsche tax as long as the work is quality like yours and I don't have to do it twice.
Thanks
Girt

Are these pistons compatible with your Brembo brake upgrade for Boge struts, either way what comes in the Brembo.

Great work again, fair prices and thanks for the contribution.
