993 Decklid job - Completed
Well, I went down to the panel shop to pick up the 993 after getting the call that it's all finished. The paintjob is amazing. I was blown away by the quality. When I was down there, I saw a yellow 964 Turbo 3.6 (965, I guess) up on the hoist with the nose all crunched in. It was a victim of hitting the wall at Phillip Island raceway in Victoria. Apparently the guy driving it was on his warm-up lap and because he was on the track... No insurance...
![]() I didn't get a pic, but I may pop back down to have another look. Anyhow, here's the 993, before ![]() ![]() And of course, afterwards... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We had to buy all the factory original pieces for the inner grille for the lid. It looks factory. It's a great job, and I got all the details for the parts required fromp-car.com. Thanks!

I actually like the original grille...harks back to the 356 and the 550...but man you car looks good with the turbo tail!!! what about the rims...is it an early 2S??? The ones I have been seeing have the turbo twist... I envy your boss...be sure to take the long way home... |

Hi Adam, which body shop did you use? I'm looking for someone who knows Porsche's to handle my car.
Cheers,

Believe it or not those rims are the standard rims for a Carrera S. They are the 7x17 and 9x17 "Cup" rims, and when they were put on a widebody by Porsche they required factory spacers in the back, 25mm I believe. Even in '98.
One could also get the 8x18 and 10x18 Technology hollow-spoke wheels as an option - the same ones from a twin turbo.

Thanks, Guys!
It is an awesome car in all respects. The car has twin Monty mufflers which make the car sound absolutely fierce! A lot of fun to squirt now and then. I actually like the way it looks with the turbo tail, but I also envy the retractable split grille decklid. I posted on Pelican a little while ago, asking if it were possible to re-use the grille section on a stock decklid as 993 lids won't fit earlier cars. Paul, the panel shop in Melbourne is Paint & Custom Workshops in Dundas St, Thornbury. They do factory warranty work for Lamborghini Australia and their shop is nearly always full of 911s. Infact, the only other kind of car in their shop was a BMW. They're a good bunch of guys, who do amazing work. They're very well tied with the "Weltmeister" clique in the Porsche Club of Vic. Being a New Car Dealership, we use them all the time for Warranty work. They're good operators. What kind of work does your 911 need?? 82SC, I sorta did take the long way home. But, the last thing I wanted was for a delivery truck to rear end me too far off the beaten track! ![]()
