Hi there,
As I mentioned before, I need to weld a bracket on my inner rocker panel (right side), due to some corrosion. But in the inner rocker panel there's some kind of heating hose. I'm afraid to burn the hose while welding. Is it difficult to remove the hose temporarily and replace it after welding? Any suggestions? Thanks, - Kees. ![]() |

My recollection is a little hazy on this, but I seem to recall that this duct is metallic and wouldn't easily be damaged. If you're welding fairly thin material you could use a MIG welder which would produce very little collateral damage and shouldn't harm the duct. I have some information about this duct and removal, but I'm not where I can access it right now. If no one else comes up with more timely information, I'll look it up when I get home and relay it to you.

Unfortunately I don't have any way of conveying the pictures of this area from the book that I have, but you can go to http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911_Parts/1974-75/8-1-1.JPG at this site to see an exploded view. The flexible duct can be removed easily once you have taken off the inner rocker panel, but there are a lot of welds on the inner rocker panel attaching it to the frame. I'd take my chances on careful MIG welding before I went to the trouble of removing the inner rocker panel. Fortunately, when I worked on mine, I only had to replace a rusted section of the outer rocker. The inner one was still solid.
I'm not sure what kind of bracket you are trying to attach. Perhaps an alternative like pop-rivetting would work? |
