Oil Leak 3.0 (Top/Rear of Motor)

Hi All,

As the topic suggests, I have a leak (after steam cleaning) coming from somewhere at the top/rear of the motor. (see pic)

Any suggestions as to most likely culprit? Any would be a great help

Cheers
Roni

The breather cover (gasket and or hose) appears to be the cause of the oil in the picture.
If the other side of the motor is wet suspect the oil pressure switch and or the oil thermostat O ring.
An engine removal will be the easiest way to get to the leaking parts.

i had the same issue with mine and was able to reach in and replace the breather hose, breather cover and oil thermostat gasket. i removed the air cleaner and associated hoses. with the help of a good mirror and light its doable. the hardest part of me was reinstalling the clip for the air filter..

That is CIS in the picture, the unit has to come out, at least partially to get the breather cover and breather hose replaced.

Gee Thanks for the good new.... NOT! No really, thanks for the advice/suggestions!!!

Ok, it seems an engine drop is in order... (will do in winter, our winter)

I have a two post hoist in my office warehouse so all good. Another question, with the engine out, what seals, o-rings and sensors should be done on a 3.0 (which was re-built not 50Kmls ago)?

Cheers
Roni

It really depends on what you want to do, your miles are low on that rebuild. Once the CIS is off you have that breather, the hose and the oil thermostat o-ring and pressure switch.

If you get the 101 projects book there is a section on "common oil leaks" and that would be all of the ones I would address while out. I would add the rear main for piece of mind though.

Before you get to the engine removal, clean that area VERY well. Run the engine and look for fresh oil. That way you have a real good idea where the leak is coming from before you just start replacing stuff.
