Mounting an 'RS' rear bumper...advice please
Not to sound like a fiberglass virgin (okay, I am), but as I unpacked my one-piece fiberglass "RS" rear bumper to replace the gawdawful 74- "update" rear bumper the previous owner had put on the car, I noticed that the center support brackets were glassed on, but the outside mounts (those just aft of the rear wheels) were not on the bumper. What to do? Am I supposed to take the mounts off the old rear bumper and pop rivet them onto the new one, or what? I can certainly fabricate something, but I would like to keep the 'creative' side of this project to a minimum. Any experience would be helpful. BTW, this is an MA Shaw piece.
Thanks, Steve

I'm just about to install my RS glass rear bumper too. My swap meet special came without the two center and end supports (for lighter weight I guess). I'm going to do a trial fit and see what it needs. There is a large glass area on the bumper that could be used to attach to the chassis. I do have a couple of sacrificial factory rear bumpers to cannibalize for the support brackets. After their removal, I'll have to carefully glass and resin these onto the bumper to make it look copasetic. The end brackets can be easily fabricated out of aluminum or steel material and pop-riveted and/or glassed into position. Fun stuff eh? Don't suppose you want to trade?
![]() While I'm at it, I'm going to play around with a 2nd exhaust pipe on the right end of the banana muffler. I'll start with a small drilled hole and work my way up. This will mean creating a finished-edge mirror opening on the passenger side of the RS bumper for the 2nd exhaust pipe.
