another cab latch question
is it easy to convert a later style cab latch to the sc, im looking at a power top that raises and lowers does this mean it has the later style latches? the power part doesnt mean anything to me, should i pass if its the late latch and wait for one that will work with my setup, Thanks, Kevin

Pass. It won't work. Way too difficult to modify. Just hang in there until a good '83-'85 manual top comes by.
I got screwed on a top that was supposed to be the '83-'85 top, but when it arrived, it was an '86 manual top. I had to buy the upper windshield frame portion from an '86 and weld it onto my '72. Not fun. Turned out quite nicely though. I also had to shave the rain gutters because they were different sizes. Now THAT was a ton of work! Had to weld/gring/weld/grind until I had built up enough support to take the structural place of the now missing rain gutters. So now you see why I say to wait for the right top, and of course, make sure the seller is honest! |
Tyson we spoke before on tops, you sent some info, i have a top thats not complete do you know anyones thats got a damaged one i just need the parts that go from the folding part to the windshield, Kevin

No Kevin, I don't. Cab top parts aren't very easy to come by separately. You might try checking the salvage auctions to look for a wrecked car that may have the pieces you need.
But it will probably be cheaper in the long run to buy a good complete early top, rather than piece one together, only to then have to install the fabric, etc. For about $2,500 to $3000, you can get a nice complete top that you can just bolt on and adjust, and you're set. |
I am *so* tempted to do this conversion! Uncle Sam is giving me a little of my money back, as is Uncle Gray (Davis). Hmm....
Either that or a 2nd garage... |
